Something about webmapping and me

The Research Group Cartography of the Technical University of Vienna offers courses for Webmapping. My little webmap site ist my personal abstract of this course in march and april 2013.

Web Mapping is the process of designing, implementing, generating and delivering maps on the World Wide Web [Neumann A. (2008) in Encyclopedia of GIS].

Web maps have a lot of advantages in comparison with printed maps:

easy distribution to a large audience
easy updates
interactivity and multimedia usage, animation
related information through hyperlinks
personalization of maps (filtering) and collaborate mapping

but the disadvantages are:

internet access is required at the time of use
limited resolution and screen space, espacially in case of mobile usage

In general, webmapping implies client-server-computing, standardized protocoll languages (HTTP), web browser usage with standardized languages (HTML, CSS, Javascript).
